- Flights
Flights to Bourgas and Varna are plentiful in the summer and from practically every
airport in the Uk and Ireland between May and October
Prices for summer 2012 as usual seem generally to be on the high side so shopping around
before you purchase tickets is imperative.
The announcement back in 2010 of WIzz Airs' summer route from Luton to Varna introduced
some cheaper fares. Wizz also increased their peak season frequency to Bourgas
to 5 times a week. Although budget carrier Ryanair now fly to the city of Plovdiv twice a week at very reasonable prices the Black Sea Coast is a long 4 hour coach ride away.
We hope you find the links below useful in the quest for cheap fares. If you know of any others we have missed please let us know

arrival airport. Hire cars can be a good way of exploring and increasingly the road

Petrol and Diesel cost around BGN2.50 per litre.
- Coach & Rail Travel
The coach and rail links provide an excellent service. Both
have a huge domestic network as well as international links and are a great way
of exploring. The recently completed Central Bus Station and Central Train Station,
which has recently undergone modernisation, are located adjacent to one another
so if you miss your bus why not catch the train!
Taxis from Sofia Airport are plentiful but can be expensive if you take one from
the rank outside - expect to pay between 30 and 50 Levs depending on your bargaining
skills! There is a cab company named OK Cabs located in the arrival halls of both
airports - if you order a taxi from them you will be charged the correct fare according
to the meter. At the time of writing (March 2012) the fare to the city centre is
around 14 Levs. Alternatively catch the bus - The No 84 bus and the No30 Minibus
both stop outside the Arrivals Hall of the Low Cost Terminal (The old airport).
A free shuttle bus runs between the two airports at regular intervals. A Bus Ticket
must be purchased from the blue kiosk next to the bus stop for around 1 Lev - expect to
pay 1 Lev for each piece of luggage, but you pay onboard the Minibus. Please note
however they do not go all the way to the Central Stations. Instead you have to
alight at the University and either walk (approx 15 mins), hail a cab (5 Levs) or
walk along Tsar Osvoboditel Street and catch a No1 or
No7 Tram.
